Plaxis modelling of flood protection levies with respect to Eurocode 7.
The aim of the research was to establish new and more reliable design methods implementing state of the art FEM based techniques and advanced constitutive models for better assessment of flood embankment behaviour and to identify key parameters affecting the safety of the flood protection earth structures, which is one of the most important geotechnical assets of Hungary. The deliverables as the outcome of the first 6 months block already included directly applicable design guidance for FEM based EC7 conform levee design for the client. The more general findings of the research will be published in international platforms. Proposal for a major financial support of an extensive research project to investigate the key issues identified in this pilot study the National Authority of Waterways has been submitted.
